LOW-E Insulated Glass VS Normal Insulated Glass: What’s The Difference?

2024-02-27

Latest company news about LOW-E Insulated Glass VS Normal Insulated Glass: What’s The Difference?

Low-e insulated glass is an insulated glass with a low-emissivity coating applied to one of the glass surfaces to provide better thermal insulation performance and light control capabilities. Compared with normal insulated glass, the differences between LOW-E insulated glass are as follows:

1. Coating technology

Low-e insulated glass adopts low-emissivity (Low-E) coating technology. This special coating can block heat transfer to a certain extent, reduce thermal radiation, and improve the thermal insulation performance of windows. Normal insulated glass does not have this special coating layer.

2. Thermal insulation performance

The low-emissivity coating of low-E insulated glass can effectively inhibit the transmission of heat, thereby reducing the heat exchange between indoors and outdoors, and has excellent thermal insulation performance. In comparison, normal insulated glass has higher thermal conductivity and heat is more easily transferred through the window.

3. Energy-saving performance

Due to the low-emissivity coating and improved thermal insulation performance of Low-e insulated glass, it can effectively reduce energy consumption. This makes low-E insulated glass perform better in terms of energy saving, helping to reduce energy consumption for heating and cooling. Normal insulated glass is relatively weak in energy-saving performance.

4. Light transmittance

The low-radiation coating of Low-e insulated glass can control the transmission of ultraviolet and infrared rays, reducing ultraviolet exposure to indoor furniture, floors and other items, thereby extending the service life of indoor items. Normal insulated glass does not have this function.

5. Cost

Because Low-e insulated glass uses special low-emissivity coating technology, its manufacturing cost will be higher compared to normal insulated glass.

To sum up, Low-e insulated glass has better thermal insulation performance and energy-saving performance than normal insulated glass, which can reduce heat conduction and improve the energy efficiency of the building. However, due to the higher manufacturing cost of Low-e insulated glass, it may require a higher investment in some cases. Therefore, when choosing insulated glass, you need to decide which type of glass to use based on your specific needs, budget, and building requirements.
